Israel ratifies the Singapore Convention on Mediation

1. On 8 January 2025, Israel became the 15th state to ratify the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, commonly referred to as the “Singapore Convention on Mediation” (“Singapore Convention”). Upon ratification, and in accordance with Article 8(1)(b) of the Convention, Israel made a reservation declaring that the convention will apply only to the extent that the parties have agreed to its application.

2. As previously noted in our previous client update, Israel signed the Singapore Convention in August 2019 and on 22 July 2024 incorporated the Singapore Convention into Israeli law by introducing Amendment No. 103 to the Israeli Courts Act 5744-1984.

3. This ratification marks a significant milestone, facilitating the acceptance and enforcement of international mediation agreements in Israel and further aligning the country with the global framework for dispute resolution.
